While some things in this volume are outdated (sweeping generalizations of ethnicities read a little cringey in 2021), the analysis of famous families is entertaining and the introduction to family systems theory is helpful.

Stacey, my 46 year old daughter, gave this book to me a couple of years ago. At the time, she was getting her M.S.Due west., and also in therapy, and this MAY accept been required reading.....not sure. I read it when she beginning gave it to me, but I am currently revisiting it and being reminded of its wisdom, especially with regard to relationships between parents and grown children and between siblings. I think the strongest message for me was to practice empathy, to recognize our fundamental connectednes Stacey, my 46 year old daughter, gave this book to me a couple of years agone. At the time, she was getting her M.S.W., and also in therapy, and this MAY have been required reading.....not sure. I read it when she commencement gave it to me, merely I am currently revisiting information technology and being reminded of its wisdom, especially with regard to relationships betwixt parents and grown children and between siblings. I remember the strongest bulletin for me was to practice empathy, to recognize our primal connectedness as human being and to accept each other for who we are, not who we WISH them to be, or to HAVE been. Non easy, to gear up aside the judgement, but very rewarding when we exercise.
She analyses a few too many profiles of famous families for me. They are interesting, merely I lost patience after getting the point. The best affiliate for me was the last one entitled "Reconnecting." It pretty much summed it all upwards which I appreciated.
A very good read if you lot are interested in improving your relationships, especially with family, simply also if you are interested in genealogy.

I tin see how Jefferson or the Bronte families have these recurring subversive patterns and can employ some of that to my own families patterns but oasis't figured out if there is anything I can do to Finish the negative cycles. An easy read regarding psychological approaches to family unit systems, highlighting the use of a genogram. Information technology was thoroughly enjoyable as the many examples used are of historical/famous figures and their families. This would be a proficient read for anyone wanting to understand more about their family, non just psychology students.
